Attempts to communicate with "other civilizations" are rather pathetic (19971019)

We send all kinds of messages to the space and hope that somebody will understand them! Frankly speaking it appears to me a joke.

Consider the vast space of the universe, the infinite time of existence in the past and in the future, the fact that we are not even capable to communicate with our pets, or monkeys. Now, we are hoping that there is somebody, at this time, in this place, who would be more capable of understanding us than all the beings we know so closely here? Just give those drawing of the solar system on the platinum plate that were send into space to our Fido, and see what he says. And when he will say his own opinion, we, for sure, will understand all of it. Woof, woof.

The uproar and disbelief after Copernicus proved that our Earth is not the center of the universe, lasts until now. Maybe the guys in Vatican do not dispute it, but there is quite an army of bible followers that are still in the position to present the ultimate proof, that their book was always right. Some say that mathematics was invented to prove Copernicus' concept. (Mathematics? That is another story)

The human's obsession, to perceive place of own origin as the center of the universe, has been lasting for some 450 years. However, we have to admit that this pertains only to minority now, and most of the majority will actually laugh at this notion. But, Majority! Do not think that you are so much smarter! For last 20 years, you are laughed at by followers of the new incarnation of the Copernicus' theory - Dawkin's 'gene' theory.

Most of the 'majority' of Copernicus' followers does not even realize, that they, or - let say - the human, was 'knocked out' from the center of the universe too. We, humans, are merely a survival environment for the other 'rulers' of the world - Genes. And we are not even more important that monkeys, or dogs, ants or bacteria. We all are just different creations of genes. And, those are genes, which evolve. Their evolution appears through them being able to create more advanced vehicles of their own survival. They even created machines that are capable of creating another ones.

That is what we are. Aren't we?

How long it will take humans to get used to this role? 

On the Death Penalty (1997/11/10)

Death Penalty was always questioned and argued for. There are two ways of understanding the reason for a penalty:

• as a teaching tool; it is supposed to provide a lesson how to live and relate to others,
• as a deterrent; one will not want to repeat the crime and face the penalty again,
• as a way of restraining an offender from the rest of the society.

First two do not justify the death penalty. Dead people do not learn, nor they make any future choices about committing a crime. Restraining does not require being dead neither.

So what else can the death penalty be?
Vengeance only?

• Whatever one does in life, is always submitted to the opinion of others. Every decision one makes includes consideration for others. One always is influenced by others' opinions, whether the planned activity is directed toward fulfilling their expectations, or against them. We are slaves of the people who surround us . We have no free will at all. We are always influenced by what we expect other people would say after we have done what we planned.

• There is only one thing in our lives we can do without being exposed to the perceived response of others - one action we can take without needing to worry what others will think about us afterwards. There is no way anybody can influence us when we are dead. Killing yourself is the only, truly free act one can perform.
